Strawberry Peach Iced Tea – A Perfect Picnic Companion!

Strawberry Peach Iced Tea, you say?Strawberry Peach Iced Tea with Pitcher and Glass

That’s right, this Donwell Abbey Strawberry Peach Iced Tea is so refreshing and delicious.  It features one of my own teas, Donwell Abbey Strawberry, from my line of tea, which I created, called Jane Austen Novel Teas. I can’t think of a better companion to any Labor Day picnic or party, or any get together really. There is usually a shortage of non-alcoholic beverages at an event and your choices are often times either pop or plain water. I don’t drink any soda pop anymore and I believe that many people are also making that choice for their health.

Give your guests something special!

This isn’t a lot of work but it’s different and fancy and shows to your guests that you care to put on a nice party.

My friend Charlton would always have the most wonderful parties and he would make up many different drink options in pitchers and a huge spread of food for his guests. Any time we got an invitation to one of his shindigs, my husband Ken and I were a little more excited about the event than we might normally be about some upcoming gathering.

Strawberries and Peaches and Tea; oh my!

Teapot with Strawberries, Peaches, and Donwell Abbey Strawberry TeaAlas, it’s not a quote from Jane Austen’s Emma, but this makes me think of another character similarly named, from The Wizard of Oz; Auntie Em. Unlike Em and Dorothy, I don’t live on a farm in Kansas to pick my produce fresh so I purchased organic Strawberries and Peaches for my iced tea. I got a great deal on the strawberries at only $2.95 a pound. More and more grocers are carrying the organic versions of fruits and vegetables, to our benefit.

Pair it with a fabulous dessert!

In addition to this Strawberry Peach Iced Tea, try making my Peach Pie as dessert this Labor Day.  The two would compliment each other so well.  If it’s your party and you are the host, put it into a beautiful pie dish like this one of found. Otherwise, the NordicWare (affiliate links) one that I use for traveling is really great. Don’t forget to hop over to that post and print out that recipe as well.

No extra sweetener necessary!

I don’t think extra sweeteners are necessary since the fruit smoothie ice cubes will start to melt into the tea, but if your guests are real sweet tooths, then offer them some simple syrup to add. Please don’t use any artificial sweeteners though.

Donwell Abbey Strawberry Peach Iced Tea – A Perfect Picnic Companion!

Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 9 Cups Spring Water
  • 6 Medium sized Organic Strawberries Hull removed
  • 1 Medium Organic Peach Peeled
  • 7 teaspoons Donwell Abbey Strawberry Tea Loose leaf tea from Jane Austen Novel Teas
  • Mint Sprigs for garnish
  • Extra strawberries and peaches for garnish

Instructions

  • Peel and slice your peach into 8 sections. (Be sure to discard the pit.)
  • Remove hulls from strawberries and slice them in half.
  • Place them into the bottom of a large teapot. Make sure they are room temperature and not cold.
  • Add 6 cups of fresh, cold, spring water to a tea kettle. Heat the water just until it reaches a rolling boil.
  • Measure out 7 teaspoons of loose leaf Donwell Abbey Strawberry Tea and place it in a paper tea sac.
  • Add just a tiny amount of the hot water to the pot and swish it around. Let that sit for a minute to warm the tea pot up.
  • Add your tea bag and pour in the rest of the 6 cups of boiled water.
  • Steep between 3-5 minutes only. NO LONGER.
  • Making sure not to squeeze the tea leaves, remove the tea bag, letting the water drip from the bag for a minute, from tea pot and place on a small dish. (You are going to use this again.)
  • Remove the fruit from the teapot and place it into a magic bullet blender with about a cup of the hot tea.
  • Blend the mixture for about a minute.
  • Strain the mixture to remove all the strawberry seeds.
  • Pour the pureed fruit and tea mixture into ice cube trays and freeze.
  • Boil the other 3 cups of spring water and using the same tea bag from before, steep some more iced tea for 3-5 minutes in the teapot.
  • Add this next batch of tea to a large pitcher with the other 6 cups of tea that you steeped earlier with the fruit.
  • Cool in refrigerator for several hours and serve unsweetened in a tall glass with a garnish of a peach slice, strawberry, and a sprig of mint leaves on the rim of the glass, and offer your guests some simple syrup to add to their tea if they so choose.
